Guatemala Adoptions: Escorts
If neither you or your partner can travel to Guatemala to process the adoption, you must submit your I-600 “Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative” in America. The DHS must then inform the Consular Section in Guatemala that your petition has been approved.
An escort must then be appointed to accompany the child to his/her visa interview, and you must provide them with a notarized statement affirming that the escort is to bring the child to the United States to reside in your custody.
Your statement can be presented to the judge determining the child’s eligibility to leave the country, to aid proceedings. The statement should also be submitted at the visa interview, along with your and/or your partner’s tax returns for the previous three years and other evidence detailed above.
