Costs of adopting in China, Chinese adoption fees

April 27, 2007 by sachinskg

The process of adopting a child from China can become quite expensive. Fees vary according to the area in which child has been living, but the standard fees are listed below:

  • Notarization of the documents to be taken to China is charged by the Chinese Embassy and Consulates at $10 per document (regardless of the document length).
  • The CCAA fee is $365, and another $200 will pay for translation of all documents. This latter can be done in the US or China, but translations will be checked and applicants charged for correction of any errors.
  • Registering the adoption at the Civil Affairs Bureau will cost $30
  • The fee for the Chinese adoption certificate varies. This certificate, along with the birth and abandonment certificates (or death certificate(s) for the child’s biological parents), must be notarized.
  • Chinese passports are charged at $25.
  • Parents are expected to make a “donation” of $3000-5000 to the Child Welfare Institute where the child has been raised to pay for the care they have received.
  • In some cases, parents have been obliged to pay up to $500 to orphanage staff for their bringing the child into the capital.
