Child Trafficking vs. International Adoption

Child trafficking — the transporting and sale of a child for sexual exploitation or child slavery — may be seen if poorly regulated countries or countries where international adoption is used as a means for local corruption. Most nations receiving the children have taken strong measures to prevent trafficked children being part of international adoption. The United States has, if needed, suspended adoptions from certain countries if the need to investigate and correct procedures. The Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption (also the short title for Convention #33) is one large step taken to prevent child trafficking through international adoption.
