Adoption Statistics
There are less children available for adoption in the U.S., each year. This is due to the law legalizing abortion, lower fertility rates and more single women keeping their babies. Whereas in years past, an unwed mother would give her baby up for adoption, now many single women are deciding to have a baby on their own. The number of children awaiting adoption in the United States dropped over 10% from 132,000 to 118,000 from the year 2000 to 2004.
